Keep Video Gambling Out of Schaumburg!
"As the youngest candidate running I hate to have to be the adult in the room who points out just because our friends are jumping off a cliff doesn't mean we have to as well!"
REASONS
Keep Video Gambling Out of Schaumburg
I stand alone as the only candidate committed to keeping Video Gambling out of our community! This is something that has been creeping into surrounding villages but I don't view something we don't currently have and all can unite against as lost revenue, especially when the potential income for the village is not nearly enough to make the risks involved worth it since we should be creative enough to find revenues or savings to more than cover that small amount.
Residents Opposed to Video Gambling
In going door-to-door, I've talked to an overwhelming number of people, the vast majority of whom are proud of Schaumburg for keeping this out to date and hopeful we continue to do so.
Disenegenuous Claims by Opponents
My opponents claim we have the best restaurants and retail around (a point I agree with) but then claim we need still need video Gambling as well just to "keep up". If we're the best, who do we need to keep up with so which is it? They also would propose placing this in some locations but not near Woodfield. I argue why place something anywhere in town you don't want to have everywhere, pretty simple argument to make here!
Reduced Revenue for Other Industries
Municipalities only receive 5% of revenue that is generated by video gambling. 1 opponent claims we stand to gain $1 Million in revenue each year and while I doubt that given our late entry to this market, even if we did that would take $20 Million in losses, which I find to be an uncomfortable level of funds not being spent on our already great restaurants and retail options!
Reduced Realistic Revenues Due to Late Entry Into an Existing Market
Hoffman Estates only earned $450,000 last year, and we'd be cutting into that share from not only them as our closest neighbor but an already congested local market. At best we could hope to receive $250,000 per year, a mere fraction of our $250 Million annual budget.
No Video Gambling Funding Here
While my opponents have both received donations from the video gambling industry, skewing their perspective on this issue, I've pledged to not take a dime from such sources so you know I don't owe anyone on this or any issue.
